'വീടിൻ്റെ വടക്കു കിഴക്കായി ഒരു കുളം ഉണ്ട്. അതിൽ നിറയെ താമരയാണ്. വിശേഷദിവസങ്ങളിൽ ഈ കുളത്തിലെ താമരയിലകൾ പറിച്ച് കഴുകി വൃത്തിയാക്കി എടുക്കും. അത് മേശമേൽ ഇട്ട് അതിലാണ് ഊണ്. ചൂട് ചോറ് താമരയിലയിൽ വീഴുമ്പോൾ അതിൽ നിന്നു പൊങ്ങുന്ന ആവിക്ക് താമരയുടെ സുഗന്ധമുണ്ടാകും'.

"There is a pond to the northeast of the house, filled with lotus flowers. On special occasions, the lotus leaves are picked, washed, and cleaned.
