ഭാഗ്യം; അങ്ങേർ പുറംതിരിഞ്ഞുനിന്ന് പാവലിനു തടമെടുക്കുകയാണ്. ഹോ, കയ്പ്പുള്ള സാധനം! ഇത്ര കഷ്ടപ്പെട്ട് ഇതൊക്കെ എന്തിനാ അങ്ങേർ ഉണ്ടാക്കുന്നത്? അവനു നീരസം തോന്നി. അങ്ങനെ മത്തായിച്ചേട്ടൻ്റെ വിയർത്തൊലിക്കുന്ന  പുറം നോക്കിക്കൊണ്ടിരുന്നപ്പോഴാണ് അകലെ തോട്ടത്തിൻ്റെ കവാടം കണ്ണിൽപെട്ടത്. പിന്നെയവൻ വൈകിയില്ല; ഉന്തുവണ്ടിയിൽ നിന്നിറങ്ങി ഒറ്റയോട്ടം. കരിയില അനങ്ങുന്ന ശബ്ദം കേട്ട് മത്തായിച്ചേട്ടൻ തിരിഞ്ഞുനോക്കി. അതാ, കള്ളമുയൽ ഓടിപ്പോകുന്നു. അവനാകട്ടെ, ഒരു നിമിഷം പോലും നിന്നില്ല. ഓടടാ, ഓട്ടം. കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങളിൽ  നന്മയുടെ അംശം വളർത്തിയെടുക്കാൻ ഉപയുക്തമായ മനോഹരസൃഷ്ടി.

Luckily, the old man had his back turned and was busy making a fence with bitter gourd vines. “What a bitter vegetable! Why does he work so hard to grow this?” the little boy wondered. As he watched the old man’s sweat-covered back, he noticed the garden gate in the distance. Without wasting a moment, he jumped down from the handcart and ran as fast as he could. Hearing the rustling of dry leaves, the old man turned around. There was the little rascal, running away like a rabbit!
